THOUGHTS FOR THINKING PEOPLE

MY VALUES DETERMINE MY DESIRES.
Hebrews 11:24-27 (KJV) 24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches … than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward. By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
WHAT WE VALUE WILL DETERMINE WHAT WE ARE WILLING TO GIVE TO KEEP THAT WHICH WE REGARD AS WORTH ATTAINING. (lcp – November 5, 2022)
The Apostle Paul tells that Moses considered the reproach of Christ whom he saw was to come of greater value than the wealth and the treasures of the Egyptian empire, for he was looking to the reward and that being the ‘Coming Of The Messiah.’
Hebrews 11:26 ESTEEMING (cherishing, honoring and valuing) THE REPROACH OF CHRIST GREATER RICHES … than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward.
The meaning is this: God is gain.
Mark 8:36 (KJV) 36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
We have many people today within the church that have lost sight of the value of ‘Christ.’ Many have determined that ‘Christ’ is just a teacher or philosopher of mystical wisdom, not a ‘Crucified Christ On Calvary’ for the ‘Redemption’ of humanity. Therefore Christ becomes to many just another way to God.
On the cover of Robin R. Meyers’s book ‘Saving Jesus From The Church,’ you will find these words on the cover that defines his book. “How to Stop Worshiping Christ and Start Following Jesus.” Meyers’ thought process is that ‘The Messianic Christ’ was nothing more than: “A Galilean sage (who) evolved over time into a divine Savior.” (ch. 2, page 34)
Because of my personal redemption and salvation in Christ, I think I’ll take the position along with Malcolm Muggeridge an English journalist and author who said:
“The greatest artists, saints, philosophers and, until quite recent times, scientists, through the Christian centuries, … have all assumed that the New Testament promise of eternal life is valid and that the great drama of the Incarnation which embodies it, is indeed the master-drama of our existence. To suppose that these distinguished believers were all credulous fools whose folly and credulity in holding such beliefs have now been finally exposed, would seem to me untenable; and anyway I’d rather be wrong with Dante and Shakespeare and Milton, with Augustine of Hippo and Francis of Assisi, with Dr. Johnson, Blake and Dostoevsky than right with Voltaire, Rousseau, the Huxleys, Herbert Spencer, H.G. Wells, and Bernard Shaw. {from the book Vintage Muggeridge, ed. Geoffrey Barlow, Grand Rapids, MI: Eerdmans, 1985, pp. 32-33}
